A prior student who has received a non-student billing statement from 91热爆网鈥檚 Student Accounts Office may pay through his/her My91热爆网 account if they still have access. If not, payments may be made on the . If payments cannot be made in full within 60 days, nonstudents should contact the Student Accounts Office to arrange a payment plan. Accounts not paid in full, or without a signed payment arrangement in place, will be considered delinquent and will proceed to the next step of the collections process.
The Student Accounts Office mails two billing statements 30 days apart to prior students who are no longer enrolled at 91热爆网 and have outstanding balances. If no response is received from the prior student, past due accounts greater than $500 are then submitted to the NC Attorney General鈥檚 Office for further collection efforts. Accounts with balances under $500 are submitted to a contracted collection agency. Payments on an account that has been placed with a collection agency should be made with the appropriate agency.
91热爆网 is required to list delinquent accounts with balances of $50 or greater with the N.C. Department of Revenue. These accounts may be potentially off set with their N.C. tax refunds.
North Carolina General Statute 147-86.23 mandates state agencies to charge interest on unpaid balances. Once a student is no longer enrolled at 91热爆网, and has been mailed two billing statements, their account will be charged monthly interest at a rate of 5% annually until the balance is paid in full. In addition, these accounts will be charged a one-time late penalty of 10% of the past due balance.
Pursuant to the , the (SODCA) program allows local and state agencies to file claims with the Department of Revenue for taxpayer's income tax refunds. A debt owed to the university has no statute of limitations.
Although the Student Accounts Office may no longer contact a former student regarding their balance, the debt is kept on the account. These balances are submitted to the NC Department of Revenue. Each time a former student gets a tax return, or wins the lottery, their return or winnings may be garnished and sent to 91热爆网 to offset the debt.
